What is a Health Care Professional?

27/06/2012 11:47

The term health care professionals cover a very wide array of jobs. However these are not the only people who fall into the bracket of healthcare professional. As defined by thefreedictionary.com a healthcare professional is 'a person who by education, training, certification, or licensure is qualified to and is engaged in providing health care.'

This covers all sorts of occupations from Physiotherapists to alternative medicine such as practitioners of Acupuncture. The term also covers people trained to work within the care industry who look after people with disabilities or mental health issues. There is some debate as to how far the term ranges with some people arguing that it includes things like hypnotherapy, which does require training, but is not fully authenticated within the medical world. In all, if you have been referred by your doctor for a treatment you will definitely be seeing a health care professional. However, it may be that anyone who is trained to help you with a medical problem can call themselves a health care professional.

Health care  professionals are always responsible for the patients well being. Patients look up to them when they need help. It is extremely important for the health care professional to be sensitive and nice towards the patient. A person goes to the doctor when they get sick, so the professional has to be nice towards the patient.

The reason I mention this is because these are some of the reasons why health care professionals are important. Without health care professionals, we would have a lot more sick people around the world, more deaths, and even more germs. We wouldn't have cures for diseases if it wasn't for health care professionals. Health care professionals also give a helping hand towards the community. They go to groups and talk about the importance of different things and they make sure that people get the help they deserve. They also sometimes help the homeless people who are in need of help.
